Bikram Hot Yoga of Redmond

Etiquette for Yoga?

Absolutely. When in Rome, do like the Romans. This simple structure will help you to navigate your practice, the studio and your neighbors in a manner that provides utmost comfort for all.

We practice yoga etiquette to show our respect for ourselves, our peers and our teachers.

  • Arrive early to class. Classes start and end on time. Please be on your mat with everything you need two minutes prior to the teacher entering the room. We do not allow late arrivals or early dismissals.
  • Please stay until the end of class. It is important for your health and the energy of the group.
  • Please no talking, moaning, dramatic sighs of torture or loud noises during class.
  • Please refrain from asking the teacher to open the door, turn up or down the heat etc…
  • Be a good role model. Practice your stillness and discipline between the poses. Notice if you are in front of a beginner. They will follow you.
  • Front row leads the class… If you set your mat up in the front please be a good example by working hard and staying focused. If you are a newer to the practice, tend to lay down a lot, continuously wipe your sweat or are having a day where you don’t feel like giving 100%, please set up in the 2nd or 3rd row instead. Your energy affects all of those around you so we want the most disciplined and focused students in the front.
  • Modifications: If you have an injury or special circumstance, please let the teacher know before class so they are aware of what’s going on with you. Remember, modifications may need to be made in the BEGINNING of a student’s healing process while there is a lot of inflammation etc. It is important not to become dependent on these modifications. They are temporary changes to help you get through the tough times. As you are able, you will move back to the regular execution of all postures. You’ll have your head to your knee in no time!
  • Please do not pour your water over your head or on your towel, it makes the humidity in the room go up drastically. If you insist on pouring a little water on your towel to keep your feet from slipping, please do so before class begins, it is very distracting.
  • Leave no trace. Please deposit trash, recycling, mats and towels in their proper place. Bring home your clothes, water bottles and equipment. We donate items that are left for longer than 2 weeks.
  • Please no perfume, cologne or heavily-scented lotions in class. Did you know...one in five people have negative reactions to scented products?
  • Please come to class clean, wearing clean clothes and deodorant.
  • Follow along with the teacher. Try your best in each posture in the Bikram Series. If you think you can't do a posture, set it up. Please reserve additional postures or postures from other disciplines until after final savasana.
  • We apologize for any inconvenience however we do not allow children to play unattended in the lobby while parents practice.
  • Enjoy yourself. This is a life-changing practice. It is challenging, important and serious, but is also a lot of fun!
